Life & Theater

Growing up on an island where people grew up watching Latin Telenovelas; vulgarized dramatic TV-acting with ” face slaps, fake illnesses & a whole lot of relational or familial drama…well let’s just say people could benefit from the awareness that what you watch, shapes your perception of reality.
FACT: What we consume as entertainment, news & information shapes and influences our daily thinking, feelings & even what we choose to do. Our brains are wired to react to that which tingles the senses.
If Telenovela Drama was your Grands or Mama’s daily thing; chances are your brain absorbed the background noise…or you might be the one who secretly (because in this day & age, who’d dare admit!) enjoyed or even got addicted to the Crack, Pop, Boom, Clap & Click onomatopoeia-driven hell of a hilarity presented on TV.
QUESTION: How does content consumption cloud or clear up your judgement?
Which lens do you view others from?

My own personal & professional opinion merge into one Giant Truth that I am currently proud to live by; 2 Truths If I may sprinkle in some dark Deadpan-faced-shoot-to kill humor in it!
- Exposure to High-quality Theatrical Performance is Critical; as critical as all other artforms & expressions.

On June 6th, 2026 I immersed myself into a theatrical performance that highlights this very issue of consumption, leading to attachment of life itself to a manipulative system of ‘being’. ‘Oda na Ser’ -Desconecta! (Translation: Ode to the Being – Disconnect!) is a play designed for Immersive Theater and performed in Iambic Pentameter: Human Heartbeat.

I absolutely enjoyed myself performing 3 plays, back-to-back in a bodysuit while covered in Aruba’s red clay dirt. This play was written by the local Department of Cultural Affairs’ own Jhon Freddy Montoya whose career spans 30 years of Theater, Poetry and Songwriting. I got to see all his collection of trophies; IMPRESSIVE does not cover it!

Looking back, I am grateful to have grown up doing performance arts at Church and School, since my early years. My mother also took me to Theater Classes and by the time I was a teenager, I had completed several courses. Theater & Performance Arts helped me greatly in raising my daughter, and I used it for a myriad of opportunities in my work with children in Montessori, Trauma-care and more.

On June 10th, 2026 with Hostess Siomara & Cas di Cultura Rep Rochelle, at our local TV Plant Telearuba. Thank you Siomara & Nos Mainta for hosting us! Educating, advocating & raising awareness on the importance of Quality Content, Inclusivity & Support of the Arts is a true honor! The entire interview can be watched through the link below, it starts at 48:10…it is in our local language Papiamento.
‘Oda na Ser’ was received with great reviews! And I am, as an actress, very proud to have reached the goal of blurring psychological lines between actress and audience! There weren’t many dry eyes in the room, and for each expression of theirs, I remain eternally grateful. Bringing Hope, shedding Ties that Bind and of course spreading Love is a mission and purpose I live by.

And here I drop my number 2-pun intended-: There are so many “bad actors” around, playing roles that honestly, just stink. I’m referring here to a pop culture-bred mindset that stimulate people to Gaslight, Divide & Smear. Amanda & I will explore and expand on this in the coming month. Some do it intentionally, others are severely misinformed and uneducated. It is sad to watch the consequences thereof; so let’s do something about it!

As my brilliant daughter suggests on our About Us page–Step away from the digi a bit; read one or better yet, many books–study Facts and have Faith that is in the end Wiser to build upon the Good, the Beautiful, the Lovely. Give, Transform & Inspire! A person, company or organization’s Fruit, speaks for itself.
The best line I heard lately was at Cas di Cultura (Theater) by a wonderful woman: “Natasha when you shine, you make sure others shine with you!” Amen to that! I have an acronym to ease the process of Transformation: P.R.E.T. (meaning Fun/Funny/Hilarity/Enjoyment in Papiamento & Dutch)–it stands for ‘Please Respect Earth’s Tenants’–Oda na Ser celebrates total Freedom of the Human Being; we are all made out of Stardust and one day, we will all return to dust again! In the meantime, enjoy yourself and protect one another from harm. Like clay, you are created as a unique work of Art–Once you adopt and incorporate this in your daily contact and connection with others, you will gladly serve, build up and encourage your fellow Clay Jar. Each one, a Star!

Welcome to June 2026. Amanda & I are thrilled to ease into blogging & creating podcasts as we share with all what we feed our spirit, minds & bodies! Our theme? Look back! My exploration? How-to & What we look back on is IMPERATIVE. The movie script of each life on this Earth is precious; I intend to celebrate both yours & mine!
